Comic Book UK member Cosmic Lighthouse is focused on bridging the gap between prose science fiction and graphic storytelling; led by Editor-in-Chief Paul Cornell, the pioneering indie comics publisher has made major waves with its debut graphic novel, Salvation’s Child, written by internationally bestselling science fiction author Adrian Tchaikovsky. The digital release captured immediate success, holding the #1 spot on Amazon’s digital comics charts for several weeks.
Unlike traditional comic adaptations where a separate creative team drafts the script, Cosmic Lighthouse’s core mission is to bring the best science fiction and fantasy novelists directly into the medium, widening access to creatives and tapping into new audiences.
Bridging Prose and Sequential Art
Set against the backdrop of an evolving publishing landscape, Salvation’s Child represents a bold new approach that unites the deep, thematic world-building of prose with the dynamic sequential storytelling of comics. In approaching their publishing mission, the co-founders set out with two core creative ambitions:
Bridging visual design across formats: Collaborating with award-winning prose book cover artists for comic artwork, such including Steve Stone (who crafted the cover for Salvation’s Child), many of whom are taking on their first-ever comic projects.
Empowering prose authors in a new medium: Ensuring that acclaimed novelists like Adrian Tchaikovsky write their own comic scripts directly.

Navigating Industry Challenges and Global Distribution
Author Adrian Tchaikovsky and the creative team built the graphic novel from the ground up, seamlessly connecting literary science fiction with cutting-edge comic storytelling.
To ensure Salvation’s Child reached the widest possible audience, Cosmic Lighthouse designed a sophisticated, dual-track distribution model. The publisher successfully secured the print rights for Salvation’s Child to produce the physical edition in-house, partnering with Turnaround Publisher Services for comprehensive UK-based retail and comic shop distribution. For global markets outside the UK, they are partnering with a prominent independent prose publisher to expand their international footprint while exploring European translation rights.
Impact and the Horizon Ahead
The release of Salvation’s Child has already made a major impact, proving that there is a massive international appetite for sophisticated, author-driven graphic novels.
“What we’re doing is bringing the values of prose publishing to comics,” noted Editor-in-Chief Paul Cornell. “We are tapping into talent in both the comics and prose worlds, finding new artists, and working with established creatives who want to innovate in this medium.
Building on this spectacular momentum, Cosmic Lighthouse is gearing up for its next major milestone: a major Kickstarter campaign for All Systems Red, a graphic novel adaptation of Martha Wells’ beloved The Murderbot Diaries. Featuring an introduction by actor and writer David Dastmalchian and a stellar creative team including writer Erica Schultz, artist Gary Erskine, color artist Yel Zamor, and letterer Simon Bowland, the Kickstarter is sure to make waves very quickly.
A third project will be officially announced alongside other exciting titles at the upcoming Thought Bubble Festival in Harrogate.
